More than 12,000 mangrove seedlings have been planted since the program was launched in October 2014.
The program was launched in October 2014 and since then, more than 12,000 mangrove seedlings have been planted. The Mangrove Rehabilitation Program has a proven success rate of 90% even after Cyclone Winston, and is referenced internationally as one of the most successful mangrove rehabilitation programs in the South Pacific. In 2016 seven local schools participated in the Mangrove Rehabilitation Program.
NAWI ISLAND SAVENACA RAWACA SCHOLARSHIP
A presentation to each school was brought to the students in an effort to educate and teach them about the importance of our mangroves, the environment and also to motivate students to keep studying and preparing for a better future. During the 2016 program, Fiji Rugby Olympic gold medalist, Savenaca Rawaca supported and participated in this successful event, setting up the NAWI ISLAND SAVENACA RAWACA SCHOLARSHIP. This will be awarded to students who have successfully completed Year 13 and wish to pursue tertiary studies.
